101
As hard as it is to believe, today is the 101st Day of 2015 ... And, if that isn't crazy then I don't know what it. It is hard to believe that we are already four months into the "new" year.
Every new year I say I am going to stick to my "resolutions" or "goals" for the year and it is always around this time of the year that my plans start going south. You know-- I forget about them, bad habits return, etc. Like last year when I said I was going to start tweeting more. Yeah well by mid march I hadn't tweeted in 8 weeks. Whoops. I know that tweeting isn't really something that is going to improve myself by much, but one of the easier challenges I had on my list ... and yet the one that failed before any of the others!
So, now it is day 100 and I am trying to remember all those things I "wanted" to accomplish over the year. Surprisingly enough I have stayed on track with most things.
Thanks to my awesome work friends the "get healthier Brenna" is in full force. I had a couple weeks that were less than satisfactory, but we have all seemed to get back to it. Gym everyday after work, healthy lunches and fitness contest have kept us all pretty motivated. Thankful to have them all... even the ones that sign me up for things that seem a little on the crazy side! If I don't pass out from the fitness contest, I might write a blog post about that! haha
Business wise things are going great. My "Monthly Goals Sheets" are working well. Marking them off one by one. It's a slow process, but it is going well! Like a business bank account. Check. I mean it helps I work at a bank, but still! ;) As anyone with a fan page, I want to have lots of "likes!" However, I have come to the realization that numbers don't matter. Quality over quantity, right? I have such wonderful clients that I am so blessed to get to work with. And, I am constantly reminded of why I started this journey in the first place. I love capturing the little moments like constant laughter of little girls cracking up at their daddy, listening to the senior kids talk about the future and the smile of faces when they see moms see images of their babies for the first time. My business model is simple. Build relationships that matter-- that is the goal and the dream I have for not just my business, but my personal life too!
PSA-- Frilly Farm Girl also got an Instagram! So you can officially follow along with blog randomness at @frillyfarmgirl! I am also hoping to get back to do some crafty things like I did before. (You know like vinyl projects and earring making, but so far I haven't found a good way to balance that, photography and work!)
Project 365 is going well. It is getting a little harder than I had imaged. I knew my life wasn't that interesting to start with, but most weeks it is like "dang" and I don't think 365 pictures of the bank would be that interesting. haha The creative side of project 365 has been fun. My photos have primarily been revolved around agriculture (which shouldn't be much of a surprise) but I have been trying to throw in a couple of different things as well, just to spice it up! Hopefully the summer will be a little more exciting with weekend trips, etc... like a weekend day trip to Texas for the Blue Bonnet Festival! (I posted a few of my favorites images below!)
Budgeting is getting increasingly harder. It is quite ridiculous really. I was doing so good at the first of the year and then stupid things like new tires and plumbing problems and other random things happened that all the good I had been doing was for nothing! haha So, now I have tried to come up a better system. Envelopes worked well for the things I had allocated money for, so now I have decided that EVERYTHING needs an envelope. One for Lucy, one for cars, one for house, one for clothes, makeup/hair supplies, hair cuts/nails... literally everything. Some call me crazy, but I call it smart... a little hard to find things in my wallet due to the million envelopes, but smart nevertheless!
Hopefully your "New Year To-Do List" has been going well too! If not, it is only April so there is always time for something new. In May I am planning new monthly challenges! I have done something similar to this before, but never had a blog to write about it so this should be fun! I think in May I am going to be a vegetarian for the month! I did it once back in 2010, but it was due primarily to the fact that I was pretty poor and only could afford bread and peanut butter, so "vegetarian for a month" was a better excuse! ha

DIY Birthday Bunting
My Mommy-Dearest just celebrated her birthday and in order to have a complete birthday, we of course had birthday cake. Now, I am no Betty Crocker so I opted to have someone else make the cake for me! (Your are welcome, family! haha)
I have seen some super cute cake toppers on Pinterest and have been really really wanting to give it a try and Mom's birthday was a perfect excuse to test out this project. (Disclaimer-- I also bought "Happy Birthday" candles just in case this was a bust!)
It was quite simple actually. All you need is paper to match your cake colors, wooden dowels, scissors, tape, string, sharpie and something to use as a pattern.
I sat down in my crafting room aka my living room floor to try to figure out how to make this work. I had seen many things on Pinterest that made for cute toppers, but nothing that seemed as easy as what I was looking for so, this is what I came up with!
1. Make a pattern-- I free handled a triangle on some junk mail that was laying close by and then cut it out to use as a pattern.
2. Cut it-- Once I had the pattern cut out, I cut a strip of paper twice the width of the triangle and then folded the strip of paper in half. Then place the edge of the triangle on the folded side and start cutting the triangle pieces. I cut four of each color because I am OCD like that!
3. Stick it-- I used stickers for my lettering, but if you have pretty handwriting you could easily free hand your letters.
4. String it-- I cut the string a little longer than what I thought I was going to need in case I needed to make adjustments later. It actually ended up being a good idea seeing as how I definitely underestimated this part!
5. Tape it-- After I laid the string out between the folds of the triangles, I taped them together to secure it! They are still loose enough to move so you can adjust them once they are placed on the cake to make sure they are even, centered, etc.
6. Tie it-- Tie each strand around the wooden dowel and then cut off the long ends.
7. Place it-- Now stick it in the cake and you are done!

Snow Dog
Lucy loves the snow... if you can't already tell! She would stay out for hours if I would let her. She has been chasing bunnies and playing with her toy all morning long! I am pretty sure my neighbors think I am crazy standing out here taking pictures of my dog playing in the snow... but hey, if people can do it with children than really what is the difference with dogs. She is like my child, right?

The Wreath Conundrum
I love wreaths. Like really love them. I would easily change out wreaths every two weeks if I could and would easily like to DIY them all. But, sigh.
Now, for my pink flower wreath I went a little crazy. I actually had the three larger flowers leftover from another project and decided to use them this go around. They were from HobLob and I couldn’t think of any place else in the house where I would use them so I went for it. The other flowers all came from Dollar Tree. Most of the DT flower bundles had a least four or five flowers per bundle so cost wise it was a cheap DIY! I had the “B” already from my old bedroom colors and since it had been hiding under my bed I thought I would put it to good use. (I also got the letter at HobLob and then modge podge scrapbook paper.) I tied a bow in some pink tulle and hung it from the wreath hanger so it looks like it is more attached than it really it.
There is only one little problem with DIY’ing every single wreath out there… storage. I live in a house that was build 100 years ago. Okay, so not really, but for real… where the heck do you store wreaths for every occasion? Every holiday? Every sports season? (I have no clue, but if you have any ideas then I am all ears!)
So, I set out for a way to make one wreath work for all holidays, occasion, sports season, etc. And, it turns out it is not an easy feat. However, I forged on and made a trip to my local HobLob (aka Hobby Lobby for those of you who are not HobLob snobs like me! Ha)
I found a simple solution to my problem and it came to me in the form of a twiggy wreath.
Ahhhhhhh.
It was like a light bulb came on. So, I picked up the twiggy wreath and headed to the floral department. If you have read any of my other post, you know that I am a cheapskate. Like, for real. If it isn’t on sale then I am probably not even going to look it over. But, sometimes I see things on sale and am still like “nope, I am not paying that for that!” And, that is what happened to me and the floral department.
I realize these flowers are on sale, but still. The plan is to downsize décor after use and I couldn’t bring myself to pay $5 for something I was planning to throw away in a few months. So, I decided that Dollar Tree fake flowers would suit me fine for this project.
The twiggy wreath was about $8. It was not on sale that day, of course, but I had my 40% off coupon so I purchased anyways. (My mom would be so proud of me for purchasing something originally not on sale!)

So, here is the best part about twiggy wreaths…. NO GLUE REQUIRED! Yes, that is right. Think about it.
If you cut the flowers away from the bundle with a little stem then you can just arrange the flowers in the wreath WITHOUT needing any glue… therefore, you can reuse the wreath time after time! Win!
You can also use zip ties, bread ties, fishing wire, etc. to add bows, letters, state outlines, DIY snowflakes… the list could go on and on and on. Seriously.
Here are a couple of examples of what I have done so far. The first one is what I did for the fall. My pink door can be a little… overwhelming for the faint at heart so I tried to keep my fall décor to a minimum because let’s face it… I LOVE fall décor. I zip-tied a orange burlap bow and arranged the yellow thingy as best I could and left it at that.
