Sunshine, Sunshine, Sunshine

am imagining you singing this like off Remember the Titans ... know what I am talking about?

Right after Ronnie Bass joins the team and cuts his "golden locks" off ... Petey sings to him in the locker room ... "sunshine, sunshine, sunshine ..."

{It is one of my personal favorite movies and I reference it quite often in casual conversation.}

It was quite a beautiful afternoon in rural Oklahoma. Sunshine all around.

Brother and Brando spent a little time training outside, so I thought I would snap a few shots of the two in action while I had the chance.

Brother should find out if Brando gets his bullet proof vest soon! Fingers crossed!

Pinterest Shopping

I am currently in the market for a new lens for my Canon 7D, which has required extensive research on my part ... aka me swooning over pages after pages of lenses.

Late last night, I was doing a little pinteresting for cute camera accessories to go with my future new get-up and I came across these little gems. I must have them. How cute are they? I picture one on my desk with desk contents and another one with coffee contents ... or with flowers ... the possibilities are endless really.

I just added them to the top of my birthday wish list... (hint hint mom)! ;)

Let the countdown begin ...

Last week, I was blog stalking my good friend, Shae. She is getting married in May (YAY) and her wedding photographer is L. Lanae Photography. I have heard of Lindsey before and wanted to check out her blog. (She is great.)

**Disclaimer-- I don't really usually read blogs unless the picture below or above catch my eye. Which is why I find it funny that I even read this post.**

I found a post where she talked about how her photography business changed when she found Pursuit 31. Thinking this "Pursuit 31" she talked of was a book, I clicked on the link and found the most awesome thing I have ever seen.

Pursuit 31 is a four day conference in Rome ... Georgia. It is mainly for creative Christian women ... photographers, bloggers, graphic designers, etc. While I was reading through the website, I felt like God was talking directly to my heart.

"Hey Brenna, you neeeeeeeed to go to this!"

After a little deliberation ... I knew this was something I should and needed to go to! And, wouldn't you know I found this conference one day before registration opened. One day. What? When I read that I was like "whoa, that is weird." Tomorrow. Registration opens tomorrow. Valentines Day.  If before wasn't enough of a sign for me, this one was.

So, I say all of that to now say ... I leave for Georgia in September! I can't wait to meet other bloggers like ... Hannah Brencher, who is the founder of More Love Letters and Karen Stott, who is the a photographer and founder of the Pursuit 31 ministry. Not only am I so excited to learn from others in the industry and hopefully meet other Oklahoma photographer friends, but I am excited to see how Christ shows uses this conference in my life. I think it is going to be life changing and business changing.

I have decided to develop a few Proverb 31:25 items to add to my ETSY shop! I am excited to share these with you soon. I have made a couple frames to see how I like them, but will be coming up with more things soon!

Cant wait to be Rome bound this fall!

She is clothed in strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future.

Something New

I like switching things up ... I don't like things staying the same for very long, which is prelude to say that the blog is getting a new do!

New things include-- my very own URL, new logo and new color scheme. I feel like spring is the perfect time to brighten things up!

I say all of this to say ... please bear with me as this transition happens.

Turquoise Tuesday: Pigs, Jewels and a Joke

It is 12:25 a.m. here ... which officially makes it Turquoise Tuesday-- one of my favorite days of the week. I did a lot of shopping last weekend (thanks to Lori Jo) and consequently I found some awesome turquoise finds.

Lets start with this little guy. I found him at Hobby Lobby for 40% off! I was ecstatic as I usually always am when I find a good deal. It is a pig that is turquoise that is on sale-- I have to get it. And, I did. I think he will look nicely on my desk (pending a successful job search) and a combination of two of my favorite things is something a girl just can't pass up.

They have more colors of these little guys... I think a yellow one is calling my name. He will match my bedroom colors, which means I probably need it and soon.

During my shopping weekend extravaganza, I stopped by Dustee's. Talk about a happy heart. I love it there. It is my happy place.

I went in to browse and surprisingly I didn't buy a thing. That never happens. However, I did find some awesome turquoise necklaces. Some are more mint colored, but we are throwing them in here anyways. I have mentioned Dustee's before, but I will again. If you haven't been there or haven't stopped by lately, you definitely should. I love a good statement necklace and Dustee's has a million different styles and a million different colors for affordable prices. Okay, so not a million, but a lot. Most range from $9.99- $15.99. I am not a huge name brand kind of gal when it comes to clothes and jewelry, so Dustee's is my kind of place.

And, lastly... this has nothing to to with turquoise or Tuesday, but sometimes it good to have a laugh ... and this makes me laugh every time I look at it!

Have a wonderful Turquoise Tuesday!

Let Love Guide Your Life

Valentine's Day ... Not my favorite holiday out there, but I have decided to embrace it anyways. I may think it is a little silly sometimes, but it could because I have never been in love either. In high school, I used to get flowers, candy, etc. from friends and family and today I was reminded how much I loved those days.

I picked up my little cousins from school this afternoon and all around were kids carrying flowers, balloons, candy, pop, etc. I guess I have never thought of it from a kids perspective, but as we drove home I heard one of the kiddos say it was cool that everyone in their class got something for Valentine's day. Sending a card or box of chocolates may seem like a small gesture, but it is truly the thought that counts. And, letting those little ones know you care can seriously make their day. Just listening to my cousins talk about what they got and who sent it to them was nearly a two hour conversation as they sampled all their goodies.

So, yes this day is about "love," but I think as single twenty-somethings we often forget that you don't have to be "in love" to enjoy Valentine's day. Embrace all those 1800 friends who are going to post pictures of the flowers from the "best boyfriend ever" or (my favorite) the sappy post about how lucky they are to have found their "best friend." {Disclaimer-- I feel like I can say this because you can bet I will be posting the same things one of these day (Lord willing).} Be happy for those friends annnnnnd stay off social media if that is what your soul needs.

So on this day remember God loves you. Always. Everyday .. no matter the date. Take some time to spoil yourself. Spoil your family. Spoil those sweet little cousins. Everyone needs to be reminded that they are loved ... even your pets. (Yep, Lucy is getting heart shaped homemade dog treats!)

Go out and embrace this day! And, bonus ... it is FRIDAY and the forecast looks awesome for tomorrow.

Be My Valentine? Done.

The best little Valentine a girl could ask for! Such a sweetheart.

I picked the cousins up from school and when we got to the house Kolton gave me this card and rose. He said he was going to start calling me "beautiful one" because I had pretty blue eyes. He is the only Valentine a girl needs.

I had so much fun working on these photos for the cousins! More photo of the cards are posted on the blog!

Follow Your Arrow

Do you know the song by Kasey Musgrave? Follow Your Arrow?

ring dish available on ETSY
I had actually never heard of it until one of my best friends introduced and now I love it! "Follow Your Arrow" is one of my favorite catch phrases now too. I have made several things with the phrase including jewelry dishes and necklaces. (pictures below)

Karolyn, the friend that introduced me to the song, designed this awesome cover photo and has allowed me to share it with you all. Feel free to download and share with your friends! I love it and will definitely be adding it to my Facebook tonight.

Turquoise Tuesday

Today is the first real post of the new things that are coming. Turquoise Tuesday is one I have been looking forward too since I decided on this theme for Tuesday's. I know a couple of others who feature something like this on their blog and I thought it was brilliant.

On this TT, I thought I would share some of my favorite things that are in fact ... turquoise! I love all turquoise. I get it from my great-grandma and my grandma. In fact, I loved it so much as a child I had turquoise jeans and a turquoise Eskimo Joe's tshirt. If I knew where that picture was I would totally share.

Anyways, back to the TT topic at hand. I am a lover of all things hippie-ish. Like VW Vans, of course. This is my dream ... well, either this or a vintage shasta. Actually, the trailer is the real dream. I search the internet almost daily looking for a trailer similar to this one. I have a great idea for it ... it's a business expense obviously. And, it would just be cool to have one. One day ... I will and I hope it is sooner rather than later!

Most of my jewelry ... okay, nearly all of my jewelry is turquoise. There is just something about turquoise that calls my heart. Probably goes back to my grandma's. Yes, lets blame it on them. These little beauties are from Chile. I went there after I graduated from Oklahoma State. While shopping in an open market, I found these and just had to have them. I hardly ever wear them because I am afraid I am going to lose them. Chile is known for their turquoise, which made it all the more reason I needed them. I can't even tell you how much they cost, because I never really understood the money exchange rate. I had blonde hair then! ;)
I absolutely love this necklace. I bought mine from Magnolia Lane Boutique in Mustang, Okla. Statement necklaces are one of my new favorite things, so be prepared for more post about them. This is a J.Crew look-alike and is less than $13. A steal if you ask me.

Thanks for joining the first edition of Turquoise Tuesday. Come back anytime.

#monogrammonday

I love having my name on everything I own. And, that is equally true for my monogram. I can't help it. Apparently, it's a girl thing or at least it's the thing for my group of girl friends.

And, now I have a new toy that allows me to literally put my name, initals or whatever my little heart desires on everything. It is basically the best thing ever! Pretty soon everything with a hard surface is going to have something vinyl on it!

Since it's #monogrammonday I thought I would share a few fun things I have been working on! You can find more fun things on my ETSY site ... Frilly Farm Designs!

I am working on new things as we speak so make sure to come back to check them out or like Frilly Farm Designs on Facebook and follow on IG for more photos! If you see something you would like to order, you can do so from the Facebook page! My ETSY shop is now open with these type of items. Search for Frilly Farm Designs !

Stay warm wherever you are! :)

Brando's Snow Photo Shoot

My brother bear is a deputy for the GCSO. Last year, my brother was selected to be a K-9 handler. Therefore, Brando came into our lives. He is a Belgian Malinois. If you haven't heard of them, you are not alone ... I hadn't either!

They are kind of like a German Shepherd, but a little smaller. But, still as smart and sweet. Brando is 20-months-old and eligible for a grant that will give him a bullet proof vest. The grant application called for two photos. One with his handler in uniform and one of Brando "enjoying his day off." Since Brando's activities primarily include listening to nature sounds on the iPad to soothe his sleeping and tracking drugs, we had to get creative. Brando hails from Belgrade, Germany and since we currently have snow on the ground, I figured he might like some real playtime in the snow. My brother and I braved the frigid temps to get a few pictures of Brando "enjoying his day off" and I think he did indeed enjoy it!

After the photo shoot, we had to measure the ole boy for his vest. That was much easier said than done. Sewing tape measures can officially be added to the list of things Brando dislikes.

Cross your fingers Brando gets a grant! The grant he is applying for comes from Vested Interest in K-9's, Inc. Check them out on Facebook if you are interested in learning more or donating to the cause! They have many Groupon campaigns to help fund K-9's and their handlers with gear.

Coming Soon!

Since its a new month, I have been working on developing a few new things for the Frilly Farm Girl blog. I want to start posting on similar topics every week. Therefore, I have decided to have theme days! Some are typical and some are (hopefully) more original ideas!

I don't want to get too crazy, so I am only going to start out with a couple of theme days and add from there!

These days will be:
  • Turquoise Things Tuesday
  • Wordless Wednesdays (I adapted the name from last weeks "No Words Wednesdays," just FYI!)
  • Favorite Find Fridays
Two things to note:
1. I love small business/shop local so a lot of the items will be things I find around Oklahoma, but I will tag where they can be purchased via their websites, social media, etc.

2. I am cheap, so these items are going to be things within reason. My family calls me tight and tell me I took after my Great-Grandma. More on this later!

I did one post last week as a trial run and it seemed to go well, so next week all days will be up and going! Pending the weather, I will hopefully be posting this weeks "Favorite Find Friday" post from An Affair of the Heart. Ekk fingers crossed!!

I hope this endeavor to challenges myself to find new, fun things to blog about and informational for the readers, as well. And, I think it will be super fun!

All photos will also be posted on our social media sites. Check out @brenna_davis on twitter, @frillyfarmdesigns on IG and Filly Farm Designs on Facebook!

No Words Wednesdays

Today, I thought I would try something new to do every Wednesday ... It shall be called "No Words Wednesday!" Basically, I am going to post a picture that needs no caption. Could be a funny e-card, a pretty landscape, my dog (probably a lot will be that little gal), rainbows, babies, porcupines, etc.

I am hoping to take all of the pictures my self (besides the e-cards obviously). I think this will challenge me creatively to find interesting things to capture. I forget how much I enjoy take landscape photos and pictures of flowers, clouds, sunsets, etc.

So, here we go! The first No Words Wednesday post!

Enjoy and stay warm today!!
